Frankly, I don't think 'INC' is a standard suffix in their current catalog. Our orders show models with 'TA', 'MX', 'SDX' naming, not 'INC'. My guess is this is a SEO misspelling or a legacy term from old NetVanta documentation. If someone told you 'INC' is a specific product line, I'd ask for the model number and verify on Adtran's official site.
I'm not 100% sure. Take that with a grain of salt. But I've never seen an 'INC' model on a purchase order in 8 years of buying from them.
7. What's the one thing about Adtran that surprised you after you started buying from them?
How sticky their ecosystem is—and I mean that both positively and negatively.
On the positive side, their equipment largely works out of the box with their management platform. We deploy their FTTx ONTs, and provisioning through ADVA's Ensemble (the former ADVA gear) is pretty seamless.
On the negative side (from my cost controller lens): once you standardize on Adtran for your CPE stack, switching costs are real. The learning curve for our NOC team, the inventory of spare SFPs and power adapters, the integration with our ticketing system—all of it creates lock-in. I calculated that switching to a different brand for our next 100-unit refresh would cost about $14,000 in retraining and integration work.
That's not a dealbreaker. Every vendor has lock-in. But you should know it going in. Plan your vendor strategy for 3–5 years, not 3–5 months. Your next order isn't a transaction—it's a relationship that compounds.
